Find and Select a Line Chain

You can use the function in a part model or in the part sketching mode.

Part Model

The line chain is found automatically in the same part when you indicate the continuing line at the intersecting points of the lines.

  1. Do either of the following:
    • Select a single line.
    • Select a line and planar face.
  2. Select the context-sensitive function Select Line Chain.
  3. If you selected a line first, indicate the continuing line at the intersection point of the line. The intersection point is indicated with a red ball.

If you initially selected a planar face, the search will only target lines in which every point's distance from the plane in question matches the standard distance defined by the first line.

  4. You can cancel to the intersection point preceding the last indication by pressing Ctrl+Z.
  5. Continue as follows:
    • Create a closed line chain. The search ends.
    • Select Confirm.
  6. Continue by selecting a context-sensitive function that you target at the selected line chain.

Sketch

The line chain is found automatically in the same sketch plane when you indicate the continuing line at the intersecting points of the lines.

  1. Do either of the following:
    • Select a line.
    • Do not select anything.
  2. Select the context-sensitive function Select Line Chain.
  3. Select the first line in the chain unless you selected it before selecting the function.
    • The line is automatically found in the same part.
    • In plane sketches, the search does not target lines that are perpendicular to the sketch plane.
    • The line chain search retrieves lines that match the first lines. Auxiliary lines do not impede searches for shape line chains.
  4. Indicate the continuing line in the line intersection point.
  5. You can cancel to the intersection point preceding the last indication by pressing Ctrl+Z.
  6. Do either of the following:
    • Create a closed line chain. The search ends.
    • Select Confirm.
  7. Continue by selecting a context-sensitive function that you target at the selected line chain.
