View Settings

Select settings for controlling the view of a drawing or a model.

  1. Select > Preferences > Drawings, Models.
  2. Select the View tab.

Drawing

Show Drawing Limits
The drawing limits are indicated by a continuous line in the drawing window. You can toggle the visibility of the drawing limits.
Show Detail View Limits
Show and hide the limits of a projection area or a detail view.
Vertex BD: For example, a panel view in a panel drawing and a truss view in a truss drawing are detail views.
Show Color Fills
The color fills are displayed in the floor plan when the setting has been enabled and the color fill layers are on. For example:
  • Wall color fill on layer 31. Select a color fill for a wall in the wall properties.
  • Room color fill on layer 56. The color fill of is determined by the room label.
  • Building component color fill on layer 59, covering hatch on layer 101. The color fill is defined in the building component's 2D drawing.
  • Soffit color fill on layer 109.
Mark Hidden Texts
You can add a hidden text to a drawing, which is displayed as spaces or linefeeds in the Text window of the Text dialog box. A hidden code text is connected to a space.
You can make hidden texts visible so that you can select them in a drawing. Hidden texts are depicted in the drawing using characters:
.   Empty space
Empty line (linefeed)
Mark Associative Elements
This function highlights an element, to which the element selected from the drawing have a geometric attachment and associativity. For example, if you select a line element, the text, part number, dimension or geometric constraint added to the line will be marked with a highlight color.
Change Dimension Color If Connection Is Lost
If a dimension loses its associativity due to the modification of geometry, it will no longer be updated. Dimensions that have lost their associativity will be highlighted in color, when the setting is enabled.
Dimensions will be removed automatically, when Delete Dimension If Connection Is Lost is selected on the Usage tab.
A dimension will lose its associativity, for example, in cases like this:
  • An element connected to the dimension is deleted, for example, an opening is deleted from a wall, which causes the dimensions attached to the edge lines of the opening to be detached.
  • Elements connected to a dimension are divided in a way that eliminates the geometry connected to the dimension.
Fast Drawing of Dashed Lines
The setting affects the drawing of dashed lines on the screen.
  • When the setting is selected, the drawing method is fast. Dashed lines are always drawn on the screen in the same way, regardless of the value of the line spacing or the scale of the drawing.
  • When the setting is not selected, the drawing method is accurate. Dashed lines are drawn on the screen according to the selected line spacing and the scale of the drawing.
Fast draw makes the handling of dwg files containing a lot of dashed lines easier.
The selection will be valid when you next time start the program.

Model

Show Reference Geometry
Setting for the 3D Modeler (Vertex G4).
You can toggle the visibility of reference geometry in the assembly model. The auxiliary geometry of an assembly includes:
  • 3D Sketch
  • A guide curve of a planar sketch
  • Cross Section
  • A center line of a pipe component
Show Machining Features
Setting for the 3D Modeler (Vertex G4).
The geometry of a machining feature is highlighted in red color in part modeling and assembly. The geometry of a machining feature can be set either visible or hidden in assembly.
Show Both Surface Sides Always
Setting for the 3D Modeler (Vertex G4).
You can set both the inside and the outside of part surfaces visible. When modeling a part using surfaces, it is a good idea to make both sides of the surfaces visible. If you wish to view where the insides and outsides of surfaces are in a part, you can disable this function to have only the outsides of surfaces visible.
Show Model Origin
You can toggle the visibility of the model origin.
Show Hatches on 3D Model
You can toggle the visibility of the material hatches in a wire frame model.
Show Annotations
Setting for the 3D Modeler (Vertex G4).
Show Formulas
Setting for the 3D Modeler (Vertex G4).
Toggle the visibility of the dimension figure and the contents of the Formula field in the sketch of a part model.
Bitmaps Used in Model Into Model File
When this setting is enabled, an image file you attach to the model, such as a logo, texture or a photograph, is automatically saved in the model and is thus visible when the model is transferred to another Vertex work station.
Show Pipe Handles
Setting for Piping Design add-on feature. When the setting is enabled, the grip points of a pipe, duct or a building component are shown in the model when you start to add a pipe or duct line, or add a grip point linkage between the parts.
Show 3D Dimensions in Foreground
3D dimensions and texts are displayed in the foreground when the setting is enabled.
In sketching, dimensions are always displayed in the foreground, regardless of whether the setting is enabled or not. Similarly, the measurement results of the Verify Distance function are always displayed in the foreground.

Common

Show Constraints
Toggle the visibility of geometric constraints.
Show Geometry Tip in Cursor
Setting for the 3D Modeler (Vertex G4).
Toggle the visibility of a tip window of the cursor on points, lines, faces and parts in the model window. For example, you can use the function to identify surfaces in a model you import into Vertex. If Vertex recognizes the face, it can name the face.
Show Coordinates in Inches
The cursor's coordinates in the status bar are presented in inches, when this setting is enabled.
Mark Entity Before Selecting
Sets highlighting objects before selection. When this setting is enabled, a line element in the cursor-snap area, for example, is highlighted in color. If highlighting is not used, the object will not be marked in any way.
Bubble Tips
When the setting is enabled, the prompts in the status bar are also displayed in a tip bubble.
