Compression of Model and Drawing Files on Save

Starting with version 2026 (32.0), compressing model and drawing files on save is enabled by default. Compression saves disk space and speeds up the opening and transfer of files. Compression does not change the file extensions of files. The compression ratio and the file size limit for compressed files are set in the system settings. The default settings are optimized and recommended.

  1. Select File > Preferences > Edit.
  2. Select System settings / Save.
  3. Select the compression ratio and the file size limit for compressed files.
    • You can adjust the compression ratio using the slider. The higher the compression ratio, the less disk space is required and the faster the file transfer, but the longer the compression time. By moving the slider, the compression ratio can be set to 0, 1 or 2.
      • 0 - No compression
      • 1 - Default value.
      • 2 - Highest compression.
    • File size limit, smaller files will not be compressed. The default value varies by application. If the file is smaller than the limit, compression will not be useful.
  4. Confirm by clicking OK.
  5. Restart Vertex.

Additionally, you can select the following save settings:

  • Autosave interval in seconds

The default is 1200 seconds. This setting applies to drawing files that are not related to the building. The program automatically saves drawings that are open in the workspace and have been edited after the specified time since the previous save. The drawing is saved in a file named safe[nro].vxp in the program's user folder. The number represents each drawing in the workspace.

  • Building autosave interval in minutes

In addition to user saves, an autosave is stored of the building. You can set the autosave interval in minutes. Learn how to open an autosave or user-made save: Open a Previous Save.

  • Maximum number of building saves to keep
