Managing Buildings
A building is an entity comprising several model and drawing files, databases and text files. Building data is managed using a database called PROREG.
- Each building has its own row in the database.
- Building data is stored in the database fields. The data is viewed using the building data card.
- The database is located in the program’s ../shared/dbases folder.
The building can be saved in:
- Local archive. Included as standard in the Vertex BD program. Design data can be shared in the local area network. The building folder is located on the user's computer in a single installation or on a server in a local area network in a server installation. Modifications made to the building are saved directly to the computer's disk. Read more: Buildings in the Local Archive.
- Vertex Sync. A separate product that can be connected to the Vertex BD program. Sync is a cloud service that enables sharing of the design archive and also the design environment for all designers. Depending on their permissions, users belonging to the same organization can view, edit and revise buildings and documents stored in the cloud. Does not require installation on an individual user’s computer or on a company server. The service is updated automatically. Read more: Vertex BD and Vertex Sync Integration.
- DesignStream system. A separate product that can be connected to the Vertex BD program. DesignStream is a data management system that enables sharing of the design archive. Requires installation on a server. The local archive of Vertex BD is used as a working archive during the design of the building. Read more: BD Archive and DesignStream Integration.
Note: Vertex CAD programs are not designed for sharing on Dropbox, OneDrive, or SharePoint type network shares. The risk of sharing conflicts is high, as database and file locks do not work as they do on a LAN, and databases and files can become corrupt.
