Convert Dimensions to Inches
When you are using the metric dimension unit system, you can convert the dimensions added to a drawing to inches.
When you are using the imperial dimension unit system, you can convert the dimensions to millimeters.
Usually, when a dimension is added to a drawing, it is located on a default layer, which is defined in the setup file, for example "4 Drafting dimensions". After converting the dimensions, they are located on two layers: the original dimensions are on the default layer and the converted dimensions are on the layer you have chosen.
- Do either of the following:
- When you are using the metric system, select Drafting | Dimensions | Dimension > Convert Dimensions to Inches.
- When you are using the imperial system, select Drafting | Dimensions | Dimension > Convert Dimensions to Metric.
- Define the data in the Inch conversion dialog box.
- Type - Select the method of presentation for inch dimensions.
- Precision - Select the precision of fractions for inch dimensions.
- Ignore precisions of individual measures - The feature is not used in Vertex BD application.
- Type the drawing layer on which the dimensions are to be added in a text box.
Display Converted Dimensions
When you want the converted dimensions to be displayed in the drawing, you will have to deactivate the visibility of the default layer and switch the layer of the converted dimensions visible.
- Select Select Layers from List from the tool strip.
- Select the layer of the converted dimensions from the list, and deselect the default layer of the original dimensions.
- You can define the default layer of the converted dimensions with the keyword dimension_conv_layer in the DRAFT keyword group. Type a layer number as the keyword value.
- If the distance to be converted is less than 1 inch, only fractions of an inch are included in the dimension by default, for example 3/4". If you want 0 to be the first dimension figure, for example 0 3/4", add the keyword suppress_zero_inches= 0 to the DRAFT keyword group.
