Position the Parts of a Pipe or Duct Line Using Constraints
Piping Design
Add a pipe or duct line in, approximately, the correct position. Refine the pipe lengths and their relative positions using geometric constraints.
- Begin adding constraints by first fixing the position of the parts that must not move. For example, fix the positions of the pipes beginning and ending the pipe line.
- Fix the direction of a part if you wish it to retain its original direction. The direction of a pipe line added in the vertical direction (Z axis) is the only one that will be automatically fixed.
- Add geometric constraints between parts. For example, add a distance constraint between the center lines of pipes, or between a pipe center line and some other building component.
- When a pipe or duct line is added, a grip point linkage is automatically created between the parts. You can add a grip point linkage also by selecting Modeling | Connection | Distance Handle Linkage (in the model).
