Exploding into Groups
When you add a building component (wall, window, door, floor, roof, piece of furniture, etc.), all data connected to it, for example materials and their quantity, is stored in the component. Each component has both 2D and 3D geometries that are connected to each other. Components are edited using functions connected with them, allowing, for example, changes in material quantities to be immediately updated in the component.
If necessary, the building component can be exploded into a geometry group, after which it can no longer be handled with component functions. The connection between the 2D and 3D geometries will remain, however: when a group is moved in the drawing, the change is updated in the model, and vice versa.
- Select one or more building components.
- Right-click to open the context-sensitive menu.
- Select Advanced > Explode to Groups.
You will be prompted: "Exploding to group will delete all object attributes, e.g. material information. Exploding cannot be undone. Are you sure you want to explode?"
- Confirm exploding by selecting Yes in the message box.
- You can select a geometry group for moving, copying, etc., when the object type Groups of Geometry is selected in the Selection Filter (default).
- You can explode a group into basic geometry elements, i.e. points, lines, surfaces, etc., with the context-sensitive menu function Advanced > Explode to Geometry. You can also use this function to explode a building component directly into geometry.
