Protect Parts of a Layer

Framer

When you add parts to a structure, the parts are added or regenerated to all the layers of the structure for which a framing tool has been defined. Changes made to the parts of the layer will be lost when the parts are regenerated. You can prevent regenerating the parts of the layer by protecting them.

Protect the parts of a layer as follows:

  1. Activate the model window.
  2. Select the structure.
  3. Select a layer.
Note: You can select multiple layers of the same or different structures in the object tree. Read more in the instructions Select a Structure and a Layer in the Object Tree.
  4. Do either of the following:
    • Select Panel | Framing | Protect parts.
    • Select Plane structure | Framing | Protect parts.

When you select one or more protected layers, the functions Generate parts and Remove parts are not available on the ribbon. When the entire structure is selected, the functions are available. When you add or remove parts, you receive a message about the protected layer in the structure. Select one of the following:

  • Continue - Parts of the protected layer will not be generated or removed. Parts previously added to the layer remain the same.
  • Remove part protection - The layer protection is removed and the parts are added or removed.
  • Cancel - Cancel the function.

Remove the layer protection as follows:

  1. Select the structure.
  2. Select a layer. You can select multiple layers of the same or different structures in the object tree.
  3. Do either of the following:
    • Clear the check box Panel | Framing | Protect parts.
    • Clear the check box Plane Structure | Framing | Protect parts.
Note:
  • If the tool selected for the sheathing layer of a wall panel is of type Wall sheathing, you cannot set protection for the layer, as the sheathing layer is affected by the parameters of the frame’s framing tool.
  • Protecting parts in a layer does not prevent the editing or the removal of individual parts.
  • You can set a single part of a layer to be non-updateable, see Define a Non-updateable Part.
  • When the structure is a wall, floor, or roof panel, you can prevent the regeneration of parts in all layers by protecting the panel. Read more in the instructions Protect a Panel.
