Dictionary for Description Texts

A dictionary enables multilingual item description texts. Translations for description texts in item data can be retrieved from the dictionary.

Add and edit the translations in the Vertex database as follows:

1. On the tab, in the Databases group, click Product Structures.
2. Select the items to be viewed by entering search criteria.
   • Enter search criteria in the fields.
   • When you click the symbol in a field, you can choose the field contents from a list of options.
   • Select From Archive Cards as the search criterion.
3. Click OK.
4. In the item data, next to the Description field, click Translations.

   The Word Book opens, in which you can add translations to words in the default language, or edit translations.

   For example, Finnish is the default language and its English translations are in the Language 1 field.

   • Base language - Finnish.
   • Language 1 - English.
   • Language 2 - Second foreign language.
   • Language 3 - Third foreign language.
5. If the Word Book is empty, you can add a translation to the empty Word Book as follows:
   • Add the row by the function Edit> Add Row Before, and click OK.
   • In the item data, click Translations again. The default language word is copied from the item data to the Word Book.

     When a parts list is collected, the contents of the Description field in the archive data and the Default Language field in the Word Book are compared to each other. They must be fully identical in order to have the translation entered on the parts list.

   • Enter translations in the fields. You can add translations in three different languages for the default language.
6. Click OK.
