Open an IFC Model
IFC link, 3D modeling
You can open an IFC model to its own working window as reference geometry. This requires the IFC link add-on feature. You can save the model as a Vertex model (.vxm) and work with it as a Vertex G4 part model.
- Do either of the following:
- Select > Open File. Select IFC files (*.ifc) as the file type.
- Open the IFC model in Vertex using the drag and drop method.
- Select floors and objects to be imported in a dialog box.
- IFC story, Elevation
Select the check boxes of the floors that you want to import from the IFC model from the left side list. The height position of the floors is displayed in the Elevation field.
- Objects
Select the object types to be imported from the IFC model from the right side list. Please note that importing doors and windows requires that walls are also imported. Select all object types or clear all of the selections by clicking All/None.
- IFC story, Elevation
- Confirm by clicking OK.
If you would like to add the geometry contained by the IFC model to the building model, first save the model to the model archive. Saving requires the Advanced 3D Modeling add-on feature of the software.
- Save the model by selecting > Save.
- Select the saving folder and enter a name for the file.
You will be prompted: "Add to model archive?"
- Select Yes, and define the archive data, based on which you can later find and open the model.
- Add the archived model to the building model as reference geometry.
