Spaces and Zones
Building information modeling is an important part of the construction process. The building information model contains information that is useful to all parties involved in a construction project, and the requirements for its content, for example in IFC data transfer, will increase in the future. Zone and space concepts are an essential part of the building information model.
- Zone - Zones can describe, for example, functional areas such as work spaces, lounges, corridors, or areas on different floors. In the information model, zones help to visualize how spaces are related to each other and how they can be utilized.
- Space - Space concepts define the different spaces in a building, such as rooms, corridors, lobbies, and other areas. Each space has its own characteristics, such as area, volume, purpose and location in the building.
With the functions of Vertex BD, you can add space and zone objects to a building and define the necessary properties for them. You can define spaces by clicking walls or points, and zones by selecting spaces, rooms, or previously defined zones.
Standard software delivery includes component libraries that store example spaces and zones.
- The space library of the standard delivery is System Libraries / Spaces and Zones / Spaces / Spaces .
- The zone library of the standard delivery is System Libraries / Spaces and Zones / Zones / Zones .
Information about the spaces and zones in the model and their properties is transferred to an IFC file. Space objects are also collected into the XML transfer file (components.xml).
Note: Saving a model to an IFC file requires the IFC Converter add-on option.
