Define the Entity Type for an Object

IFC Converter

You can define for an individual object which IFC entity and type (PredefinedType) it will be exported as to the IFC file.

When you save the model to an IFC file, select Object-specific types override library type mappings in the Export IFC Model dialog box. In this case, object-specific definitions overwrite all other definitions.

  1. Select the desired object in the drawing/model.
  2. Right-click to open the context-sensitive menu.
  3. Select IFC > IFC entity types. The IFC Entity Type dialog box opens.
  4. Make the following selections:
    • IFC version - Select the IFC version from the list. The available entity types depend on the IFC version.
    • IFC entity - The field shows the IFC entity that Vertex uses for the object by default. Select the entity type from the list under which you want to export the object to the IFC file. The options in the list depend on the selected IFC version.
    • IFC predefined type - The predefined IFC type (PredefinedType) under which you want to export the object to the IFC file. Select from the list. The options in the list depend on the selected IFC entity.
    • Description for user-defined - A free text field that is available when the IFC predefined type is USERDEFINED. Type a description in the text field.
  5. Confirm by clicking OK.
Note: For the following object types, you cannot define an entity that is different from the default:
    • Grids - Always exported as the IfcGrid entity.
    • Walls - Always exported as the IfcWall entity.
    • Panels and G4 assemblies - Always exported as the IfcElementAssembly entity.
