Buildings in the Local Archive
The local archive is included as standard in the Vertex BD program. When the building is in the local archive:
- By default, the building folder (drawings, models, databases, drawing sheets, etc.) is located on the computer disk in the shared/projects folder. The folder is on the user's computer in a stand-alone installation and on a server in the local area network in a server installation.
- You can also specify any other folder on your system as the storage location by editing the ms_volume definition in the program's user/SETUP file. The default storage location is specified with the project_ms keyword. The keyword value should be an ms_volume definition.
- A separate folder is created for each building, and all files of the building are saved in it.
- Modifications made to the building are saved directly to the computer's disk.
You can browse the documents of an open building in the document browser.
If you move, copy or delete building folders using the operating system's File Explorer, the changes will not be automatically updated in the archive database. You can update the database by updating the building browser. Read more in the instructions Building Browser.
The building can also be stored in Vertex Sync or DesignStream. Read more in the instructions Managing Buildings.
Note: Vertex CAD programs are not designed for sharing on Dropbox, OneDrive, or SharePoint type network shares. The risk of sharing conflicts is high, as database and file locks do not work as they do on a LAN, and databases and files can become corrupt.
