Vertex BD and Vertex Sync Integration

Vertex Sync

The Vertex BD program can be connected to the Vertex Sync cloud service for building management. You can save a building created with Vertex BD to Vertex Sync. Depending on their permissions, users belonging to the same organization can view, edit and revise buildings and documents stored in the cloud service.

Vertex Sync is a separate product that you can purchase a license to in the MyVertex portal at https://my.vertex.fi/store.

The Vertex Sync product also includes the Publisher, which is otherwise an add-on option for the Vertex BD program.

Concepts

Familiarize yourself with the concepts related to the Vertex Sync service:

  • Workspace – Workspace is an application that acts as an intermediary between the CAD program and the Sync service, and manages data transfer in both directions. Workspace works as a local workspace that is used to optimize file traffic. Read more in the instructions Workspace.
  • Revision - When you save a building with Vertex BD, a new save is created. At a specific design stage, you decide to move the building to the Sync service. In this case, a new revision of the building is created. In the future, you can choose whether to create a new revision or overwrite the old one when you push the building to Sync. The old revisions will remain in Sync. The revisions are numbered according to the numbering system selected in the Sync service.
  • Label - Labels enable file classification and filtering. When you upload a building to Sync, certain labels such as architectural design, structural design, drawing, model, panel drawing, part drawing, etc. are automatically assigned to the building's files. It is possible to create the organization's own labels in the Sync service.
  • Project - In Vertex BD, the project used to mean a building. In Vertex Sync, the concept of project has a different meaning. The project can be a larger entity to which the building belongs. A project may include several buildings and related documents. It is possible to start a project in Sync.
Note: In the Vertex BD - Vertex Sync integration, we support the latest major version of Vertex BD and its two latest service packs. The two latest service packs of the previous major version are supported for six months after the release of the new major version.
Note: Vertex CAD programs are not designed for sharing on Dropbox, OneDrive, or SharePoint type network shares. The risk of sharing conflicts is high, as database and file locks do not work as they do on a LAN, and databases and files can become corrupt.
