Document Created Using Other Software

The following types of documents can be imported into Vertex G4 Mechanical Engineering software:

  • Old Vertex drawing
  • Other 2D file
  • Old Vertex model
  • SAT, STEP or IGES File

An old document has been created using Vertex CAD software other than Vertex G4 Mechanical Engineering.

Old Vertex drawing

You can import an old drawing with the Import a File function.

You can move elements of the drawing to the sketching mode (3D), one element at a time, using the Drag and Drop method. The actual 2D drawing needs to be done using Vertex 2D software.

Other 2D file

Drawings created using other CAD software can be imported in file format DWG, DXF, DXB, DWF, IGES, TIFF. Import the file by selecting the Import a File menu bar function. You can move elements of the drawing to the sketching mode (3D), one element at a time, using the Drag and Drop method.

Old Vertex model

You can import an old model with the Import a File menu bar function. The model to be imported can be an old assembly model, a group, or a model consisting of several groups or submodels.

  • Assembly Model

The parts in an old assembly model are fixed. The fixing of a part is local (not archived) until you select the part for editing. When editing a part, the part will automatically be saved in a separate file, after which the part can be imported into the assembly as a link from the archive. The modeling of the part can then be continued using the features of the software.

  • One group in a model

An old model can be a group with no origin macro. The software will convert the model to a part. You can edit the existing faces of the model using functions that will not be included in the model history. You can continue modeling the part using the features of the software.

  • Groups in a model

An old model can consist of several groups. The software will convert the model into an assembly, whose parts will be fixed.

  • Submodels in a model

All the submodels of an old model need to have been archived. The software will convert the model into an assembly whose parts are links to the archived models. The assembly can be handled like an assembly created using Vertex G4. You can continue modeling the parts using features, and determine geometric constraints for the parts.

SAT, STEP, IGES file

A model created using other CAD software can be imported in the SAT, STEP, or IGES formats.

  1. Select Vertex, and select File Conversion.
    • Batch Export dwg / dxf
    • Batch Import dwg / dxf
    • Batch Import iges / sat / step
  2. Select Open File.

The model that opens in the window is a part or an assembly.

  3. You can edit the existing faces of the model using functions for imported models.

Note:
  • You can repair and improve the geometry of a part model using the Heal function. The aim is to correct the geometry into a form that allows the model to be edited and/or for the modeling to be continued with Vertex.
