Correct the Acis Geometry of a Part Model

The aim is to correct the geometry imported into Vertex into a form that allows the model to be edited and/or for the modeling to be continued with the Vertex G4 software's functions.

The correction will affect the model as follows:

  • Stitch - Attempts to remedy situations where there are, for example, extra points and lines between faces. Faces that are connected to each other only required one edge line. This also applies to corner points where multiple faces come together. Stitching removes extra (unnecessary) lines and points.
  • Simplification - Straightens surfaces and changes spline faces into cylindrical and planar faces. Positioning the part is easier when the faces that appear cylindrical are actual cylinders. For example, you can use the constraint Concentric.
  • Closing gaps (tighten) - Connects faces that have gaps between them. The model functions better as a volume model as all outer edge faces form a unified shelling.

Repair the invalid model as follows:

  1. Import the model into Vertex. Import a File to Vertex
  2. Select the model in the working window.
  3. Select the context-sensitive function Heal.
  4. If the model includes more than one volume, you can join them together by selecting Unite Volumes.
  5. Do either of the following:
    • Automatic Healing
    • Manual Healing

Automatic Healing

Define the data in the Healing dialog box.

  • Select Automatic Healing.
  • Click the Apply button.

The program informs you of the progress.

Successful completion of the function: No errors

Manual Healing

Define the data in the Healing dialog box.

  • Select Automatic Healing.
  • Select a suitable option for stitching, simplification or tightening.
  • You can use the default tolerance or define the tolerance value yourself depending on which setting you select.
  • Click the Apply button.
Note:
  • Before activating the Heal function, you can view the model faces. For more details, see Show Geometry Tip in Cursor.
  • The healing is saved as part of the model's history. You can select a Healing feature to be edited and change the options and tolerance values.
