Edit a Vertex Database
You can edit a database in the database view as follows:
- You can limit the rows to be handled by using filtering. The data is grouped on several pages.
- You can select a row and edit the field contents. Edited database rows are marked with asterisks (*), and the edited fields are color highlighted.
- You can for example add, copy, or delete a row by selecting a function from the menu that opens when you click the right mouse button.
- You can save the changes you made on the page by clicking Save. You can continue editing the data on the other pages.
- Click OK when you wish to save the data and exit the database view.
Context-sensitive Menu
The context-sensitive menu becomes visible, when you select one row from the database and then click the mouse right button. You can view and modify the continent of the database with these functions.
Find: You can find a string from selected field with variety of search conditions.
Find next: The program finds the next string with same search condition.
Replace: Find one string and replace it with another one. You can adjust what to replace with variety of setups.
Special Character: You can add special characters for example the symbol of diameter to a specific field. Please note that some fields do not accept the special characters.
Add row before / after: You can add a new, empty row to the database before or after the active row.
Copy row: Copy the existing, active row. The program copies all fields excluding the code, which you need to type to the field Code. You can save the row to the database after you have typed the code.
Delete row: Delete an active row from the database. The deleted row is still visible with grey font until you save the database. You can restore the deleted row before you save the database. Select the deleted row > context-sensitive menu function Restore > Deleted row.
Restore:
- Previous value of the field: You can restore a previous value of the field, if you have not saved the row yet.
- Original value of the field: You can restore an original value of the field, if you have not saved the row yet.
- Original values of the row: You can restore original values of the row, if you have not saved the row yet.
- Original values of the column: You can restore original values of the column, if you have not saved the modified rows yet.
- Deleted row: You can restore a deleted row, if you do it before saving the database.
- Original row order: You can restore an original row order, as they were when you opened the database.
- Original column widths: You can restore original column widths, if you have altered them.
Autofit columns: These changes are page specific.
- By header and data: The columns of the database adjust their width by header and data.
- By header: The columns of the database adjust their width by header.
- By data: The columns of the database adjust their width by data.
Export:
- Modify in Excel now and import back: You can export visible database rows to Excel and modify existing data or add new rows to Excel and import them back. The new rows are marked with a blue font, before you save the database.
- To XML file: You can Export visible database rows to an XML file. You cannot import this file back to the program.
- To formatted Excel file: You can export visible database rows to Excel file. Select a transfer format Common data transfer to get all fields from the database to Excel. You cannot import this file back to the program.
- Selected rows to clipboard: You can copy selected rows to a clipboard and paste them to Excel file for example.
- Selected rows to clipboard with headers: You can copy selected rows with headers to a clipboard and paste them to Excel file for example.
- Active column to clipboard: You can copy all rows from an active column to a clipboard and paste them to Excel file for example.
Filter:
- Hide selected rows: Select rows from the database and hide them.
- Hide unselected rows: Select rows from the database and hide other rows.
- Show all rows: Unhide all hidden rows.
- Invert hidden and visible rows: Unhide hidden rows and hide visible rows.
Automatic update of preview: The program automatically updates the preview pictures to the right side of the database view, when this option is enabled.
Update preview: You can update previews one row at a time, if the Automatic update of preview is disabled.
Show row as a list: You can view an active row in a list view.
Match case in sorting: This option is disabled as a default. It means that, when you are sorting rows, upper and lower case letters are treated equally: Axe, axe, Bicycle, car. The upper case letter are more “valuable” than the lower case letter, if you enable this option: Axe, Bicycle, axe, car.
Database info: You can open the database info to own window, where you can check information of the database and the format file of the database view.
