Database management

Profile data is managed by the help of the Vertex database.

The database contains the following data for a profile.

  • Type, for example RHS, U, L
  • Label, the name of a profile, for example RHS100x100x2
  • Cross-sectional area A, sectional areas Ay and Az
  • Moments of inertia for a cross section Iy and Iz
  • The distances of the cross section's edge points from the neutral axis Xmin, Xmax, Ymin and Ymax

Areas, moments of inertia and edge distances are required if the structure model data is transferred to a strength calculation program. If strength calculation is not used, these data do not have to be entered in the database.

You can browse and edit the data in the Profile Library with database functions. The name of the database is d_PROFLIB and it uses the proflib_form format file. Data connected to the geometry of the profile cross sections are saved in their own files in the Vertex folder Shared/proflib. Each profile has its own geometry file with the same name as the contents of the Label field in the database. You must take this into consideration when changing the label of a profile. You must then rename the corresponding geometry file in the proflib folder.
