Edit the Item Database

General

  • This instruction applies when the Vertex G4 is used without the Vertex Flow.
    • Vertex Flow is a product data management system based on the items and product structures stored in Flow.
    • If the company has a production control system that has a comprehensive set of raw material and component items used by the company and also controls the manufacture and storage of its own products (parts and assemblies) using the items, we recommend connecting the production control system to Vertex Flow, which is then also used store Vertex G4 models.
      • In the past, Vertex G4 has also been connected directly to several production control systems.
  • You can open the item database for viewing, edit items and save the changes.
  • One way to edit Vertex's item database is to use Excel, where the items are exported and the content is edited and supplemented, and then Excel is used to generate the item database (d_COMPONENTS) again, but even this method is laborious and requires that no one completes the item database when it is being edited in Excel.

Edit an item directly in the item database

  1. Select System | Product Database.
    • The program opens the dialog box Search.
  2. Fill in the search criteria in the dialog box.
    • Enter the item label if you are searching for a specific item.
    • Fill in item search criteria when you don't know the item label, and choose the item browsing method.
    • You can use wildcards: An asterisk (*) replaces missing characters and one character is replaced by a question mark (?)
  3. Click OK to accept the search criteria.
    • If the item label is used as a search criterion, the item data is opened directly into the window.
    • If there are no search criteria at all, the entire item database is opened. This may take a few moments.
    • An item that meets the search criteria opens in a window with substructures.
    • If there are several items in the list, you can scroll through the items with the scroll bar and the up arrow and down arrow keys.
    • Note that you can view items in the list view by pressing the Shift and Down Arrow keys at the same time
      • From the list view, you can return to the card view by selecting OK.
  4. Edit the item.
  5. Save by clicking OK.
Note:
  • If you edit part or assembly item data using this function, the changes will not be updated in the assembly model data. Data is collected on the model drawing's parts list from the item database only when the Roll-out to End option is selected in the parts list collection.
  • Edit or view item classifications by selecting the function System | Application, and double-click Item Classes.
