Framing Tools: Frame - Floor or Ceiling

Framer

Tool for the framing layer (FRAME, FRAMING) of a floor or roof, or a floor or roof panel. Select Tool from the list. If necessary, edit the tool parameters in the dialog box. The parameters define the cross sections, spacing, and other necessary values of the parts.

The thickness of a layer changes according to the selected cross section. The thickness only changes in the structure model, not in the architectural model.

Frame: Gen

Spacing
Select the part spacing from the list or type the desired value in the text field.
If you select the Parts option for aligning on the Direction and Alignment tab, the parts will be positioned at the locations of the main frame parts according to the spacing of the main frame.
Joist Detail
Select the type of the frame part: single or double joist. The default (DEFAULT) is the single joist.
Click the Sel button, and select a detail from a drawing window by clicking the hot spot.
Cross sections
Select the cross sections for the parts. If a cross section field is empty, a part will not be added.
  • Joist - Part in the framing direction.
  • Side - Side part in the framing direction.
  • Header - Side part perpendicular to the framing direction.
Change the part with the Select button. Select the profile library and cross section in the Piece Properties dialog box.
Part Properties
Insulation
Select this check box, when you want to add insulation to a frame layer. Select the insulation from the insulation library with the Select button. The default thickness of insulation is the thickness of the layer.
If the frame consists of I-beam structures, select whether to add the insulation to the profile web or not:
  • No - The insulation will be added according to the profile's rectangular cross section.
  • Yes - The insulation will be added according to the I-beam cross section.
An insulation can be defined as Injected in the insulation library. The injected insulation is cut in the structure with the surrounding parts, whereby the insulation has a precise shape. The insulation is a part model which cannot be edited by using the grip points. You can define the property by editing the insulation library:
  1. Select System | Structural Libraries | Sheathing > Insulation.
  2. Move to the row of the insulation or add a new insulation.
  3. Select x in the Injected field.

Direction and Alignment

Flip
Defines the rotation angle by which the direction of the sub frame will be rotated in relation to the main frame layer. Select 0, 90, 180 or 270 from the list.
Align
Defines the origin point of the sub frame. The part spacing is started at the origin point. Select from the list:
  • Left - The part spacing is started at the left edge in the framing direction.
  • Right - The part spacing is started at the right edge in the framing direction.
  • Middle - The spacing is started at the middle, to both directions.
  • Parts - The parts will be positioned at the locations of the main frame parts when Rotate = 0 or Rotate = 180.
Offset
Defines an additional offset, when you select the Left or Right option for aligning. A positive value moves towards the frame area, a negative value away from the area.
