Framing Accessories - Studs
Once you have generated the wall panels and added parts to them, you can add a backer, stud, or blocking to the panel.
Backer
Add a vertical or horizontal backer to the main frame layer of a wall panel.
- Select Modeling | Panel | Wall > Framing Accessories.
- Select the folder Studs.
- Double-click the thumbnail image (0010) Backer.
- Click the wall panel.
- Select the part properties:
- Code - When By Panel is selected, the cross section of the part is determined by the frame layer of the panel. Alternatively, you can select the cross section from the profile library by clicking Sel.
- Reference line - Add the backer to the exterior or interior surface of the frame. Select one of the following:
- Down - Exterior surface of the frame.
- Up - Interior surface of the frame.
- Lock direction - Select the check box, when you want to add a vertical or horizontal part. In addition, select either of the following:
- Vertically
- Horizontally
- Add connection - By default, the part is connected to the panel. If necessary, clear the check box.
- Backer at opening - The property is available, when you add a backer in the floor plan. Select one of the following as the location of the backer:
- Insert Above
- Insert Below
- Add both
In the model, you specify the location of the backer by clicking the start and end points of the part.
- Confirm by clicking OK.
- Click the start and end points of the part in the model.
- Select Confirm.
Note: Before generating the panel breaks, you can add backers by adding a panel macro to the wall, see Extra Backers or Ladder.
Stud
Add a stud to the main frame layer of a wall panel.
- Select Modeling | Panel | Wall > Framing Accessories.
- Select the folder Studs.
- Double-click the thumbnail image (0011) Stud.
- Click the wall panel.
- Select the part properties:
- Code - When By Panel is selected, the cross section of the part is determined by the frame layer of the panel. Alternatively, you can select the cross section from the profile library by clicking Sel.
- Placement - The parameter is relevant if the size of the part differs from the frame thickness. Select one of the following:
- Ext - The part is positioned on the outer surface of the frame.
- Middle - The part is positioned in the middle of the frame.
- Int - The part is positioned on the inner surface of the frame.
- Direction is vertical - By default, a vertical part is added. You can add a diagonal part by clearing the check box and clicking the start and end point of the part in the model.
- Add connection - By default, the part is connected to the panel. If necessary, clear the check box.
- Confirm by clicking OK.
- Select a location for the part. If you add a diagonal part, click the start and en point of the part in the model.
- Select Confirm.
Note: Before generating the panel breaks, you can add a stud by adding a panel macro to the wall, see Extra Studs.
Blocking
Add a blocking between studs in the main frame layer of a wall panel.
- Select Modeling | Panel | Wall > Framing Accessories.
- Select the folder Studs.
- Double-click the thumbnail image (0012) Blocking.
- Click the wall panel.
- Select the part properties:
- Code - When By Panel is selected, the cross section of the part is determined by the frame layer of the panel. Alternatively, you can select the cross section from the profile library by clicking Sel.
- Placement - The parameter is relevant if the size of the part differs from the frame thickness. Select one of the following:
- Ext - The part is positioned on the outer surface of the frame.
- Middle - The part is positioned in the middle of the frame.
- Int - The part is positioned on the inner surface of the frame.
- Opening - Select either of the following:
- Down
- Up
- Direction is vertical - The blocking is added between studs, in which case the part is not vertical by default.
- Add connection - By default, the part is connected to the panel. If necessary, clear the check box.
- Confirm by clicking OK.
- Click the start and end points of the part in the model.
- Select Confirm.
