Export a Vertex File to Another Format

You can save a Vertex 2D drawing or 3D model in another file format in the following way:

  1. Do either of the following:
    • Select > Save As.
    • Press Ctrl+E.

    The Save As dialog box opens.

  2. Select the desired Save as type alternative in the dialog box:
    • 2D drawing:
      • Adobe Acrobat Documents (*.pdf)
      • AutoCAD Drawings (*.dwg)
      • DXF Files (*.dxf)
      • Binary DXF Files (*.dxb)
      • Scalable Vector Graphics (*.svg)
      • Design Web Format (*.dwf)
      • Binary Design Web Format (*.dwf)
      • Compressed Design Web Format (*.dwf)
      • HPGL Images (*.hpgl, *.hgl)
      • TIFF Images(*.tif)
      • JPEG images (*,jpg, *jpeg)
      • BMP images (*.bmp)
      • GIF images (*.gif)
      • PNG images (*.png)
    • 3D model:
      • Adobe Acrobat Files (*.pdf) Select the Version:
        • pdf 3d - You can rotate the model in the Adobe Reader program. The 3D PDF Converter is an add-on option of the Vertex BD software.
        • pdf 2d - An image of the model, which you can view using the Adobe Reader program.
      • AutoCAD Drawings (*.dwg)
      • IGES Files (*.igs)
      • SAT Files (*.sat)
      • 3DS Files (*.3ds)
      • DAE Files (*.dae)
      • I3D Files (*.i3d)
      • VRML Files (*.wrl, *.vrml)
      • STL Files (*.stl)
      • IFC Files (*.ifc) - IFC Converter is an add-on option of the Vertex BD software.
      • IFC Compressed Files (*.ifczip) - IFC Converter is an add-on option of the Vertex BD software.
      • JPS Files (*.jps)
      • U3D Files (*.u3d)
      • TIFF images (*.tif, *.tiff)
      • JPEG images (*,jpg, *jpeg)
      • BMP images (*.bmp)
      • GIF images (*.gif)
      • PNG images (*.png)
  3. Do one of the following:
    • Confirm the default save folder, which is the project folder.
    • Select another folder using the common Windows dialog box functions.
    • Select the saving location from the Directory list and click the Go button to open the selected folder.
  4. Enter the file name. Type a name in the File name field.
  5. Click the Save button.
  6. Depending on the selected file type, make the following definitions:
    • Pdf or Pdf 2d - Select the printing settings in the Printing dialog box. You can select either regular PDF format, or PDF/A format suitable for long-term preservation (ISO standard PDF/A-1b) as the file type. Select the option from the Printer list.

    • Pdf 3d - Select the model views to be saved in the PDF file. The 3D PDF Converter is an add-on option of the Vertex BD software.

      Save a Model to a 3D PDF File

    • DWG-format - Select translation using the default setup file. If this does not produce the desired end result, create your own setup file with the dialog box functions and use it.

      Selecting the Dwg Setup File

    • DXF format - Select translation using the DXF.std setup file.
    • IGES format (3D) is converted directly.
    • SAT format is converted directly.
    • 3DS format is converted directly.
    • VRML format - If necessary, select saving as a volume model and add navigation data.
    • STL format is converted directly.
    • IFC format - Select the object types and drawing-model pairs to be transferred.

      Save a Model to an IFC File

    • TIFF format (drawing) - Define the resolution, select either black and white or colored file type and the file compression method.
    • TIFF format (model) - You can save a shaded or a wireframe model as an image in TIFF file format. Define the image size in pixels or as a factor of the size of the Vertex working window. You can select white as the background color.
    • JPEG format (model) - You can save a shaded or a wireframe model as an image in JPEG file format. Define the same information as for a TIFF file.
