Save a Shell Model / Face Triangle Model
Converter
You can save a Vertex 3D model, part or assembly as a shell model. A shell model is light and contains as little confidential design information as possible.
The supported file formats are Vertex 3D model (vxm), 3ds, or other file format supporting surface models.
Create a shell model by selecting either of the following as the file type version:
- Face triangle model - All views inside the model are removed. Only the surface triangles are left visible. This alternative can be selected for the file formats vxm, 3ds and tnt.
- Shell model - A surface model in which the remaining surfaces are actual surfaces. This alternative can be selected for the file format vxm.
The shell model is created by the software. The part or assembly is viewed from several directions, as many as ten to twenty. Faces visible from these directions are left visible in the shell model, while all other faces are removed. Due to this, black holes may be left in the shell model. The colors of the faces are saved in the shell model.
- Select > Export > Save in Another Format.
- Select File Type.
- Face triangle model
- Shell Model
- Enter the file name.
- Select Save.
Note:
- A shell model can be positioned by using geometric constraints but not a facet model.
- In the file name of a facet model or a shell model, the ID is enclosed in parentheses, for example (TutPlug08).vxm.
- Part data will be included in a face triangle model even if no faces or lines of the part are visible in the working window.
- Visualization materials of the model (faces) will be saved in the face triangle model.
- With the Version option, the Normal Model model is saved as the normal model in the selected file format.
- A facet model is created of a Vertex model, if you add parentheses to the file name by hand, and Normal Model is selected.
