Part Numbering

This version uses two part numbering methods, the old standard numbering and the new rule-based numbering. The old standard numbering is still used by default. The development of the new rule-based numbering method will continue in future versions, but you can already start using it. The new method manages the linking of part number and part drawing and provides the following benefits:
  • Part change status is controlled. Only the drawing of the changed part is recreated. Previously, all part drawings had to be recreated, even if only one part had changed.
  • If only the part label or quantity changes, only the title of the part drawing will be updated. The markings added to the part drawing itself remain.
  • You can open a part drawing when the part is selected.

The rule-based part numbering is project-specific. You can change the set of rules or revert to the old standard numbering. When the set of rules is changed, all the part labels and part drawings are deleted from the project. After this, the panel drawings and part schedules must be updated, and the part drawings created again.

Enable rule-based part numbering in the project settings.

  1. Open the project's document browser.
  2. Open Settings > Design settings.
  3. Double-click Part numbering.

So far, there is only one default set of rules.

After that, the numbering method is used when you create or update panel drawings or create a part schedule for floor and roof framings. Drawings and schedules are created as before. The first time you create part drawings, all the part drawings are created. If you later change some parts and recreate the part drawings, the drawings will be created only for the changed parts.

If you apply the rule-based numbering method to an old project, all the part labels and part drawings will be deleted. Update the panel drawings and part schedules to keep them up to date. Also, recreate the part drawings.

To open a part drawing, select the part and Open Part Drawing from the context-sensitive menu.

The part numbering rules are defined in the library in XML format. When you enable the rule-based numbering in a project, the set of rules is saved to the project in its current form. If the set of rules is modified, the changes must be updated to the project by selecting the set of rules again with the function in the project document browser.

In the future, an interface will be implemented for editing and saving your own rules.
