With the Export function, you cannot save the file directly to a memory stick protected by the password. First, export the file into a folder, and then copy the file into a memory stick.

Export a file as follows:

  1. Open the Vertex document in the working window.
  2. Select Export. More options...Less options...
    • (OR) Select Save As New Save As.
    • (OR) Move the cursor over the part label in the feature tree or in the assembly tree, and select Other FunctionsExport.
  3. Confirm the default folder or select another folder, where you want to save the file.
    • The default directory will be the active project directory, if a project is active.
    • If no project is active, the common drawing/model folder picts is the default folder.
  4. Select the file type in which you wish to save the Vertex document in the field Save as type.
  5. If necessary, select Revision, for example:
  6. If necessary, rename the file.
  7. Select Save.
  8. Depending on the selected file type, make the following definitions:
    • SAT file format is converted directly.
    • STEP file format is converted directly. The structure of the assembly and labels of the parts are retained.

Visible machining parts in the assembly are saved in STEP and SAT file.

    • IGES file format (3D) is converted directly.

When saving as a STEP or IGES file you can control the conversion using predefined files.

    • 3DS file format is converted directly.
    • Catpart file format is converted directly.
    • VRML file format - If necessary, select saving as a volume model and add navigation data.
    • STL file format is converted directly.

This requires that the software license includes IGES and STEP converters.

    • DWG file format - Select the saving using the G4toDwg setup file. If this does not produce the desired end result, create your own setup file with the dialog box functions and use it.

      Select the DWG Setup File

The Teigha Classic/Teighafor.dwg is as a default in Vertex.

      Complex DWG Conversions

    • DXF file format - Saving with the DWG converter is created in the same way as exporting file in DWG file format. However, the file extension is dxf.

Export a Vertex Drawing As a DXF File to a CNC Software

    • TIFF file format (drawing) - Determine the resolution, black and white or colored as a file type, and file compression method.
    • TIFF file format (model) - You can save a shaded or an OpenGL wireframe model as an image in TIFF file format. Define the image size in pixels or as a factor of the size of the Vertex working window. You can select white as the background color.
    • JPEG file format (model) - You can save a shaded or an OpenGL wireframe model as an image in JPEG file format. Define the same information as for a TIFF file of a model.
Note:
  • The software supplier recommends saving Vertex documents to other file formats using the above-mentioned setup files. Basic conversions can be made using these sample files. The setup files include comments. The converter setup files defined by the software supplier are grouped in folders that can be found from the Vertex folder System/setup. If you edit a setup file, add a folder with the same name in the Custom/setup folder, and save the edited content with the same file name.

If the Custom file system is not available in Vertex, add a folder with the same name in the Shared/setup folder and save the edited content with the same file.

  • The parameters of a drawing are saved with the drawing file. You can add elements to a drawing imported in a different file format and then export the file. The parameters of the added elements are also saved in the file.

    Drawing-Specific Parameters

  • You can easily output model drawings to the desired file format with the Batch Printing function in the feature tree of the part or the assembly tree.

Save Model Drawings as DWG or DXF File

  • Select elements from the file opened in the Vertex 2D window and save as a Vertex drawing or another file format.

Export Elements Selected in a 2D Window as a File

  • You can create a single part of the assembly using a Boolean operation and export the part.

  • A thread property can be highlighted with color in IGES, SAT and STEP files. You can define the face colors of a thread of a model being exported in the draft keyword group using the keywords thread_export_red, thread_export_green and thread_export_blue.
