Offset
You can define Offset when you want to create a gap between the editable part and the tool part, for example. The Offset setting affects the part that has been selected for editing.
As an example, the aim is to include welding grooves in the pipe lead-throughs of cross-plates.
Edit Parts with Other Parts - Pipe Lead-throughs
Edit Parts with Other Parts - Welding Groove
Editable Parts
Select one or more parts or subassemblies to be edited.
To select more than one, press and hold the Ctrl button.
Select Feature Elements
Tool Parts
Select one or more parts that modify the previously selected part.
If you select parts of a model before selecting the Boolean function, the parts you select will be used as the tool parts.
Only Biggest Volume Stays
This attribute takes effect when the function creates more than one part. If Only Biggest Volume Stays is selected, the operation creates the part that has the largest volume.
The Unite function creates only one volume if the parts are in contact.
As an example: parts that require a welding groove between them. The welding groove is defined with the Offset value.
Editable part
Tool part
For example:
  • When using the Subtract operation and Only Biggest Volume Stays is selected, material according to the Offset value will be removed from the plate part (Editable part). The Offset defines the welding groove between the Editable Part and Tool Part. The largest volume of the plate part is maintained.
  • The Intersect operation only maintains the plate part material defined by the Offset value.
