Position a Model on a Background Photo

Rendering

You can position a model in a background photo which is of the type backfoto. Add the background photo to the model before positioning the model in the photo. Position the model using the Navigate function. Because the background photo is also visible in the OpenGL shading mode, you can position the model using this mode.

The points determining the position cannot be clicked in a perspective projection. Make sure, that Perspective is not selected in the Projection group on the tab before you position the model with the Navigate function.

Position the model in the background photo as follows:

  1. On the tab, in the Projection group, click Isometric Navigate.

Position the model in the background photo by clicking a total of three pairs of points. Follow the prompts on the status bar.

  2. Click the first (1st) pair of points:
    • First, click Point 1 from the model.
    • Click the position of Point 1 in the background photo.
  3. Click the second (2nd) pair of points.
  4. Click the third (3rd) pair of points. The model is positioned in the photo.
  5. You can refine the model's positioning by moving the mouse a very little at a time.
    • Left mouse button - Rotates the model in the plane.
    • Middle mouse button - Rotates the model around the two points selected first.
    • Right mouse button - Moves the model.
  6. Finally, accept the position of the model on the background photograph by pressing the Esc key.

Note:
  • You can position the model, for example by first clicking the model's origin and then clicking a place for it in the background photograph, followed by clicking two pairs of points determining the two axes (X and Y) from the model and the background photo.
  • If the background photo is not visible in the model window and you have selected Shaded in the Render Style group on the tab as the drawing mode, the background photo is not of the backfoto type.
