Distance Dimension

This function can be used to dimension the distance between two points. Point is the default selection method of dimension points. You can change the selection methods of dimension points, if necessary. After selecting the dimension type, select the projection plane and the dimensioning direction.

Dimension the distance as follows:

  1. Select Drafting | Dimensions | Dimension.
  2. The dimension type is Distance.
  3. Select the projection plane.
  4. Select the direction of dimensioning.
  5. If necessary, change the selection method of dimension points.
  6. Click the start and end point (A) for the dimension. If necessary, you can change the selection method of dimension points before selecting the end point.
  7. Click the location of the dimension (C).

Selection Methods of Dimension Points

When defining a distance in a projection of the model, the default dimension selection method is selecting a point. The available methods for selecting dimensions are:

  • point
  • point on a line
  • center point of a line
  • tangent point
  • dimension point
  • end point of a surface

Before selecting the point, you can change the selection method of dimension points by pressing the F8 key or by clicking the INPMODE button.

When selecting the start point for the dimension (A), the selection method is selecting a point. Before selecting the end point, change the selection method to selecting the end point of the surface. Click the surface (B), so the end point of the surface will be set as the end point of the dimension.

Note

  • After selecting the position of the dimension, you can still change the position by using the cursor keys.
  • To edit the dimension precision or the dimension properties, click the dimension in the basic mode of the program and select the Properties function from the context-sensitive menu.
