Revision Functions of Drawings

Drawing modifications can be documented to the system by using revision functions.

  • When revisioning functions are enabled, the status of drawing versions opened from the drawing archive will be considered as in the making.
  • If you wish to open the "official" version of the document, browse and open the drawing from the saved revisions. There is a copy, dated to the saving moment, of all drawing sheets that are saved in revisions.

Saving of the revision is equivalent of publishing of the new version of the drawing.

Advantages of Making Revisions

  • The advantages of using the revision system is, that simultaneously, when designing a new revision, you can use the older and confirmed revision of the drawing, and compare the new revision in the making to it, for example.
  • When saving revisions, the history of the design progress is also saved. The copies of the drawing sheets created in revisioning will be saved under the project using REV prefix, in so called revision folder.
  • Managing revision list includes functions to modify the list.
  • Manage the revision list. Select Drawing Data
  • Click the Revisions button.
  • Enter the modifications of the drawing sheets to the revision list of the sheet. Revisioning Functions of Drawing Sheets

Revision Status

Drawing modifications can be controlled using design standards. Revision status is a significant tool to control changes. When the revision has gone through all agreed statuses, you can use the saved revision in the designing until new changes are needed to do. The new revision restarts the status cycle.

Vertex uses three statuses in the basic version of the revisioning.

Statuses are:

  • DRAFT - Designer has made changes in the drawing. The content of the drawing is unfinished.
  • FINISHED Designer has made and saved drawing modifications and the drawing can be checked, depending of the organization designing instructions, for example.
  • APPROVED - The saved version is "officially" usable. In the drawing, you can add a new revision for the following changes.

Note, in the single Vertex system names of statuses can be different. Final information of using the revisioning can be found from the designer's own instructions.

Basic Revision

When a new drawing is created, all needed sheets are added to it, and the drawing is prepared to the desired degree of preparedness.

After this, add so called basic revision to the drawing using the revision list functions, and save the basic revision. In the same time status of the drawing revision is set. Depending of the organization designing instructions, revision is possibly checked and after correction saved again and set to status FINISHED.

Revision Functions

  • New revision

Use this function to add a new revision to a drawing. The label of the revision is defined automatically according to the revision label series. A New revision is always created using this function before changes are made in the drawing sheets. New revision is not added unless the latest revision is in the status, which allows the new revision.

  • Save revision

The function updates text macros on the drawings sheets. Then the revision lists on the sheets are up-to-date and all drawing sheets are saved in the revision folder. Single sheets will not be saved separately.

  • Delete revision

If the latest revision of the drawing is not in the APPROVED state, it can be deleted. For the present, previous versions cannot be deleted.

  • Dwg. sheets

The function displays saved sheets and revision markings of the active revision of the revision list in the illustrated dialog box.

  • Rev.settings

The function displays the settings made in the system setup file related to revisioning.
