Model a New Part/Subassembly in an Assembly
Model a new part or an assembly in the assembly. The new part can also be a subassembly. Save the model either in the archives, or you can create a local part.
- Select Vertex, and select New.
- Define the document data in the dialog box:
- Select the document type: Part or Assembly.
- Enter a name for the document.
- Create a document to be saved in the archives (a link part) - Confirm the archives as the saving location of the document, and Add to the archives. Fill in the archives data.
- Click OK.
- Do one of the following:
- Mode a part - Begin by sketching or adding a library feature. Add a new sketch, for example, to an existing geometry of the assembly (reference geometry), to a sketching plane (Horizontal(XY), Vertical(YZ) or Lateral(XZ)) or as a 3D sketch. You can also copy surfaces from the assembly. Continue modeling the part until it is finished.
- Model an assembly - Start by adding a part, library component and/or an assembly feature. Continue modeling the assembly until it is finished.
- Do either of the following:
- Confirm saving the new part by clicking OK. A part's thumbnail image is created on basis of the view of the active model window.
- If you select the Cancel function, the part will not be saved and the geometry of the part will not exist in the assembly. The part symbol remains in the assembly tree.
Note:
- If necessary, you can hide parts or subassemblies from the assembly that are not required during the modeling of the part. The reference geometry required in modeling a new part is more visible this way.
- Geometric constraints are automatically created for a new part, when you add a new sketch to a face or a line of a reference geometry as a first phase of the part.
