Add an Item and Transfer it to the Item Database

General

  • An item describes a part or assembly. The item label is unique. It distinguishes the products described by the parts or assemblies from each other in the same way that the social security number distinguishes people from each other.
  • You can create an item for a part or assembly at any stage of modeling.
  • You should create an item for a part at the latest when you choose the raw material for the part.
  • It is best to create an item for an assembly at the latest when the geometry of the assembly and the item structure data exist.
  • You can create a new item when starting a new document.
  • The transfer of the item to the item database (d_COMPONENTS) is a prerequisite if you want to calculate the assembly weight based on the weight of the items and not on the assembly model.
    • In some cases, the weight calculated based on the volume of the model gives a completely wrong result, in which case you can enter weighed weight for the item, for example. For example, an electric motor or a hydraulic cylinder is modeled as a space reservation, and not as a real structure.
  • The item should only be transferred to the item database when the modeling is complete.

Add an item for an assembly model

Transfer an item to the item database

  • The function requires that the item has a label, other item data and preferably a structure (raw material for a part model and parts and subassemblies with items for an assembly model).
  1. Click Item data.
    • For a part model: Select the context-sensitive function Item Data.
    • For an assembly model: Select the main symbol in the feature tree and the context-sensitive function Item Data.
    • The function Item Data can also be found in the dialog box when you modify the properties of a part or assembly.
  2. Select the function Transfer to Items.
    • The program opens the dialog box Item Data - Item Structure.
    • The data is opened for viewing only. You cannot change them here.
  3. Click OK to accept the transfer of data to the item database (d_COMPONENTS).
