Add Item Data to a Part

General

  • This instruction applies when the Vertex G4 is used without the Vertex Flow.
    • Vertex Flow is a product data management system based on the items and product structures stored in Flow.
  • Item data or material data can be added to a part.
  • In addition to the material data, the item data contains the item data related to the part, i.e. the data used to identify the part, e.g. in manufacturing and in the warehouse.
  • The material data only contains data about the raw material or raw material item used in the part.
  • If you want the weight of the assembly to be calculated correctly, the item data must be transferred to the item database (d_COMPONENTS).

Add or edit the item data of a part

  1. Select the context-sensitive function Item Data.
    • The program opens the dialog box Item Data - Material Data.
    • The upper part of the dialog box presents the item data of the part and the lower part presents the material data, i.e. the raw material data.
  2. Fill in the item data of the part (upper part of the dialog box)
    1. Enter the Label or set the model label as the item label by clicking Label?.
    2. Select the Unit by clicking the preselect button and choosing the item's calculation unit from the list that opens.
    3. Calculate the weight with the Calculate button next to the field.
      • Note that this requires that a density has been entered for the raw material.
      • If the density is not known, the program uses the default density of steel (7850 kg/m3). You can change the default density in the settings File > System Preferences > Mechanical Engineering | Mechanical > Density.
    4. Calculate the area with the Calculate button next to the field, if necessary.
    5. If necessary, select the classes if you are going to transfer the item to the item database.
      • Classes are used to group items and as search criteria for items.
  3. Fill in the material data of the part (lower part of the dialog box)
    • You can either enter item data or get it from the item database.
      • Before you can enter item data, select a row from the lower part and select the context-sensitive function Add row after (or Add row before).
      • Select Get Item, if you are searching for a raw material item in the item database.
    • Note that there are two tabs for material data.
    • At least fill in the data needed in the drawing parts list.
  4. If necessary, transfer the item to the item database (d_COMPONENTS).
    1. Select Transfer to Items.
      • The program opens the item data for review.
    2. If the item data is correct, click OK, if not, select Cancel.
  5. Confirm the data by clicking OK.
