Import a File

  1. Select the function File > Open File or
    • Use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+O.
    • Drag the file from the Windows browser and drop it to the Vertex desktop.
    • If you drag the file to the Vertex desktop, you can go to step 5.
    • If necessary, you can drag and drop multiple files at once onto the Vertex desktop.
  2. Select the folder where the file to be imported is. The program proposes the default folder.
    • The default directory will be the active project directory, if a project is active.
    • If no project is active, the common drawing/model folder picts is the default folder.
  3. Select File Type.
  4. Select the file and click Open.
    • You can select one file at a time.
  5. Depending on the selected file type, make the following definitions:
    • DWG file conversion setup.
Note: The new Teigha Classic/Teighafor.dwg is as a default in Vertex.
    • DXF file is automatically converted to DWG file format. Define the conversion setup of the file.
    • MI File - Select import using the MI.std setup file.
    • IGES file converter settings. Use the standard IGES converter (default) to import a model.
    • The assembly retains its substructure in the STEP file format.
Note: When importing a STEP or IGES file you can control the conversion using predefined files.
    • Read a SAT file.
      • Heal You can select Healing if you suspect there is something wrong with the model. Healing is not usually needed (default).
      • Import as one part: Import an assembly as parts or a single part.

If you are importing an IGES file containing lines only, select Standard IGES as a file converter. Select the Read as one part option. The end result is a part model to which 3D sketch lines have been imported. You can edit the 3D sketch normally.

      • Remove small dimensions
      • Convert to Sheet-Metal Part / Convert to Sheet-Metal Parts: If you select the function, a part or an assembly is converted to a Sheet-metal Part - Vertex Part or an Assembly. The software examines the length in X, Y and Z directions and at least one of them must exceed the value (mm) in the field Minimun size. If this is successful, the part is converted into a sheet-metal part. Otherwise, the part remains a normal part.
      • RotateX / RotateY / RotateZ Rotate the imported model around the coordinate axes: Rotate a Model to the Correct Position when Importing
  6. The program performs a check on the imported models and possibly asks if the model is to be healed.
  7. After importing the model, you can find the Import tab on the ribbon bar.
    • Functions that you may need when the model is further refined have been collected there.
  8. If necessary, save the imported file to the archive. Select the function File > Save as New.
    • If necessary, select the project where you want to save the model/drawing.
    • If necessary, change the ID.
    • Enter the archive data by selecting the function Archive Data.
    • Click OK to accept the ID and project.
  9. Instead of an archive, you can save the imported 3D model in e.g. the component library or the 2D file in the symbol library.
Note:
  • When you import a drawing in other file format to Vertex, the original layers, line types and colors of the drawing will remain. You can add new elements in the drawing. When you save the file, the original parameters and the parameters of the added elements will be saved in the file.
