Sheet Metal Parameters

Sheet-Metal Design

You can edit different parameters of a sheet metal part. Define the parameters of a sheet metal part as follows:

  1. Open the sheet metal part in the model window.
  2. Select the context-sensitive function Properties
    • You can also open the part properties for editing by double-clicking the part's label in the feature tree.
    • The program opens the dialog box Part Properties.
  3. Make sure that Sheet Metal is selected as the part type.
  4. Click the Properties button.
    • The program opens the dialog box Sheet Metal Parameters.

  5. Edit the data in the dialog box.
    • Material (optional).
    • Thickness.
    • Bend radius.
    • Stretch calculation.
    • Ruled surface tolerance.
  6. Select OK.

Dialog Box Options

Material
Using the Select button you can select the sheet material, thickness, stretch calculation method and other data with a single selection.
  • This requires that you have completed the necessary data to the material database of sheet metal parts (d_SMDSPEC).
  • See how to complete the material database of sheet metal parts: Sheet-Metal Part Material Data.
Thickness
Defines the default sheet thickness of the part for the sheet-metal design functions.
When extruding a sketch as a thin feature, the thickness of the sheet will be set. The value will be set in the part properties.
  • You can later change the value, and the model will be regenerated with the given values.
  • The thickness value cannot be adjusted after the sheet metal part is created with the Tangential Offset function, for example..
Bend Radius
Defines the default bend radius for sheet-metal design functions. Click the Select button to define the bend radius value using a program.
The bend radius defined in the sheet-metal part properties is used as the default radius when bending the edges of the sheet, flanging the sheet or creating a bend based on a sketch.
  • If the default value is not suitable, you can change the bend radius value in each function individually.
Stretch Calculation
You can select how the deformations caused by bending are taken into account. Read more: Parameter Programs
Note: The maximum length of a bend allowance’s name is 21 characters.
Ruled surface tolerance
When flattening the ruled face, it can be permitted a tolerance in flattening.
  • If the flattening of a ruled face fails, try with a greater tolerance value.
Use the same parameters for parts with equal thickness.
With the option Use same parameters for parts which are same thickness:
  • The same parameters will be used for all parts with equal thickness.
  • If the selected parts have varying sheet thicknesses, the program opens a dialog box for each separately, and you can select the parameters.
If you remove the selection Use the same parameters for parts with equal thickness, the program displays a dialog box separately for each part, in which you can define parameters and accept the selections.
