Edit a Template Report

The components and attributes to be collected from the source file (components.xml or energy.xml), as well as the data sorting and the sheet layout, are defined in a template report, which is an xlsx file. A single template can have several sheets for different listings. The data is collected from the xml file by using the XPath query language.

You can define your own template reports by using the template reports of the system as an example. Editing the templates requires that:

  • You know how to use Microsoft Excel.
  • You are familiar with the structure, component types and sub types of the components.xml or energy.xml file generated by Vertex.
  • You know the syntax of the XPath language.

Edit the template report as follows:

  1. Select System | Templates | Excel Lists.
  2. Select the library, selection group and template report in a dialog box.
  3. Click Open. The file is opened in Microsoft Excel.
  4. Edit and save the file in Microsoft Excel.

  5. If necessary, edit the parameters of the template report and close the dialog box by clicking OK.
Note:
  • You can open the xlsx file for editing in Microsoft Excel also from File Explorer. The customer-specific template reports are stored in the custom/complibs/[library] folder.
  • You can copy an xlsx file from the system to the custom/complibs/[library] folder in the File Explorer, and open the file for editing in Microsoft Excel. Create a new template report in the library, and use the xlsx file you edited.
  • If you wish to rename the file, you can do it by using the Save As command of Microsoft Excel. Save the file in the ../custom/complibs/[library] folder. Enter the new file name as the value of the Template File parameter.
  • System tab is only available if you are a system administrator.
