Open an IFC Model
IFC Converter, 3D modeling
You can open an IFC model to its own working window as reference geometry. This requires the IFC Converter add-on option. You can save the model as a Vertex model (.vxm) and work with it as a Vertex G4 part model.
- Do either of the following:
- Select > Open File. Select IFC files (*.ifc) as the file type.
- Open the IFC model in Vertex using the drag and drop method.
- Select floors and objects to be imported in a dialog box.
- Confirm by clicking OK.
If you would like to add the geometry contained by the IFC model to the building model, first save the model to the model archive. Saving requires the Advanced 3D Modeling add-on option of the software.
- Save the model by selecting > Save.
- Select the saving folder and enter a name for the file.
You will be prompted: "Add to model archive?"
- Select Yes, and define the archive data, based on which you can later find and open the model.
- Add the archived model to the building model as reference geometry.
Note: If the IFC model is large, you can interrupt the import if necessary by pressing the Esc key.
