Convert IFC Objects to Vertex BD Objects

IFC Converter

Define how to convert an IFC object to a Vertex BD object. Each selected IFC object is displayed on its own row in the dialog box. You can create following Vertex BD objects:
  • wall
  • floor, deck
  • roof
  • window or door with a wall
  • profile
  • common converted object

When the IFC object is a wall, profile or a floor, ceiling or roof, you can select a conversion rule for it, defining the properties of the Vertex BD object to be created. A wall conversion rule can also define the conversion of windows and doors in the wall. For other IFC objects, you can select a common conversion rule. If no conversion rule is selected, the conversion is done using the properties and geometry of the IFC object. You can later edit the properties of a Vertex BD object born this way.

Name
Name of the IFC object.
Original type
The original type of the IFC object.
Converted as type
If the program cannot process the original object type included in the IFC model, you can select the type you want the IFC object to be processed as. You can then use the conversion rules that are appropriate for that type. This does not alter the original type of the IFC object.
Note: If you select Common as the type here, the conversion requires a common conversion rule to be selected in the Conversion field. For other types, conversion can be done without a conversion rule. In this case, the IFC objects will be converted by using their properties and geometry.
You can set the type for several rows at once by selecting the rows, and then for one row a value from the Converted as type list. The same value is set to all the selected rows. Select the rows one by one with the Ctrl key pressed, or select a set of rows as follows:
  1. Click the first row.
  2. Press the Shift key, and click the last row of the set.
In the conversion rule library, you can also define a type conversion for several IFC object types for setting the type that they will be processed as. When you select the rule from the Select type conversion list, the rule will be applied to all the IFC object types collected to the dialog box.
Conversion
Select one of the conversion rules saved in the library. The list displays the rules that are appropriate for the type in the Converted as type field. The rule is in the following format in the list:
Rule_label @ library_name
If a building-specific conversion rule library is available for the building, you can recognize the library from the [P] symbol.
You can set the rule for several rows at once by selecting the rows, and then for one row a value from the Conversion list. The same value is set to all the selected rows. Select the rows one by one with the Ctrl key pressed, or select a set of rows as follows:
  1. Click the first row.
  2. Press the Shift key, and click the last row of the set.
If necessary, edit the selected rule by clicking Edit rule or create a new building-specific conversion rule by clicking Create conversion rule.

If necessary, use the system function to edit the rules in the library of the custom environment.

Convert
Convert IFC objects to Vertex BD objects using the selected rules. Select the objects in either of the following ways:
  • Select the rows of those objects that you want to convert, and click Convert.
  • Do not select any object. In this case, the program converts all the objects collected in the dialog box list, when you click Convert.
You can also convert IFC objects without a conversion rule. In this case, the IFC objects will be converted by using their properties and geometry. You can later edit the properties of a Vertex BD object born this way.
If a selected conversion rule has been edited after it was selected for an object, you can select whether to use the original rule or the edited rule.
Delete conversion
Delete the conversions. You can select the objects in the same way as when making the conversion.
Status
The status can be one of the following:
  • Type’s conversion not supported - Select another type from the Converted as type list.
  • Sub part of another conversion - The part may have been converted along with the parent part, even if it has not been selected to be converted. For example, windows when converting walls.
  • Conversion succeeded
  • Conversion failed
  • Conversions deleted - Number of the deleted conversions.
Properties of selection
View the properties of the selected object.
Selected conversion
View the conversion rule selected for the object. You can edit the rule by clicking Edit rule. The changes are saved in the library.
You can add a new rule by clicking Create conversion rule. The new rule is saved in the building-specific conversion rule library. When you select a conversion rule, you can recognize a building-specific conversion rule library from the [P] mark.
