Search Device or Text

Quick selection of devices

You can select all devices of a certain type for editing or deleting.

  1. Select a device in the drawing.
  2. Press Ctrl+A keys. The software selects all similar elements in the drawing.
  3. You can for example edit or delete all the elements at the same time.
  4. Release the selection by pressing Esc key or clicking the drawing's background.

Device / Text Search

Search for device labels and texts from the drawing group. You can make search using complete label or part of the label.

  1. Do either of the following:
    • Select Drawing tab, Update group, Search Device or Text.
    • Select search with keys Ctrl+F.
    • Select an element in the drawing, that you want to search for. Select the context-sensitive function Search Device or Search Text.
  2. Select Device finder or String finder tab.
  3. Define the data of the labels to be searched for in the dialog box.
    • Device finder
      • Select the entity. You can also select empty or all from the drop-down menu.
      • Select the position. You can also select empty or all from the drop-down menu.
      • Select the device.
    • String finder
      • Type the character string in the Find what field. You can also select empty or all from the drop-down menu.
      • Select a text type to be searched for. For example:
        • Normal Text
        • Device Label
        • Contact Label / Fitting Label
        • Text Label
        • Cable label / Type label
        • Wire label / Connection label
        • Plate Text
        • Other text
  4. Define the Find from field:
    • Entire content - The software looks only for texts, that are completely same than the character string searched for.
    • Substring - The software looks for the texts, that have somewhere the character string searched for.
    • End / Beginning - The software looks only for texts, that have the character string searched for in the end or beginning.
  5. Define search area, for example Active drawing number.
  6. The function searches also the hidden parts, if Find also from hidden part is selected.
  7. You can set the search case sensitive with Match case.
  8. Select Find.

    Search result (log file) is opened in to a window for viewing. From the list you can see drawings where the label or text is used.

  9. You can view log file as follows:
    • Search result is highlighted in the drawing when you select search result from the log file and click the View button. Alternatively you can double-click search result.
    • If you want to edit log file, click the Edit button. Log file is opened to the Vertex text processor.
    • Log file window is minimized when viewing search result if Leave Minimized is selected. You can restore window visible with the window button.
  10. Finally, close log file with the Close button.

  • Device label search creates log file user/searchlog, which you can open in log browser for viewing. Open log file Label Search in log browser.
