Add a Center Line and Handles to a Part Model

Piping Design

Prepare the part model by adding a center line and handles.

  1. Open the part model in the working window.
  2. Select the context-sensitive function New sketch > Pipe component center lines and handles.
  3. Select one of the following functions from the context-sensitive menu:
    • Line> 2 Points
    • Line> Polyline
    • Arc> Center + 2 Radius Pnts
    • Arc> 3 Radius Pnts
  4. Draw a center line for the component, several if necessary.
  5. Select Confirm.
  6. Continue by adding handles at those ends of the center line to which a pipe connection will be made. As a default, Insertion Points is selected in the dialog box.
    • Click Add.
    • Click the end point of the centerline.
  7. Fill in the pipe link info.
    • Open the list by clicking and select a numerical value for the diameter. You can also enter a numerical value in the field. For example 88.9. Note that a period (.) is used as the decimal separator.
    • If the connection is a flange connection, you also need to select Connection with a Flange.
  8. Click OK.
  9. Once you have added all insertion points, select Exit.

Continue by saving the part in the piping component library.

Saving a Part in the Piping Component Library

  1. Select the context-sensitive function Save To Library> As Component.

Save the piping component in the Shared/pipelibrary folder (user's library components). The software vendor will update the System/pipelibrary component during software updates.

  2. If necessary, create a new subfolder in the Shared/pipelibrary folder.
  3. Enter the file name.
  4. After confirming, continue by filling in the component selection data.
