Automatic Saving of Safe Files

General

  • Vertex will automatically save any open documents on the Vertex desktop which have been edited after a certain period of time has passed since the last save. This is a decades-old functionality, which is now accompanied by the storage of backup files.
  • The files are created as safe1.vxm, safe1.vxp, safe2.vxm, etc. The number describes each model or drawing in the workspace.
  • Documents which have not been modified after the last autosave will not be automatically saved again.
  • For example, if several working windows are open in Vertex, and you stop working in order to do something else, all open documents which have not been saved but have been edited will be automatically saved after a certain period of time.
  • Vertex also makes backup files each time you save a model or drawing.

Open a Backup Copy

Adjust the saving frequency of backup copy files (safe*.*)

  1. Select File > System Preferences > Edit.
  2. Select Administrator's View.
  3. Select the draft group.
  4. Find the keyword auto_save_int
    • By default, its value is 1200 (value in seconds, i.e. 20 minutes).
    • Change the value, but note that the saving will take time and book Vertex resources for that time, so it's not a good idea to set a very short time.
  5. Save the value changes by clicking OK.
