Update an IFC Model

IFC Converter

The IFC model you have imported to a Vertex BD project remains original throughout the modeling process. If you receive a new version of the IFC model, you can import the new model to the project and compare the old and the new model.

The function shows which parts of the new model have been changed, added or deleted compared to the old model. You can leave the old model completely visible so that both IFC models appear in the Vertex model, or you can leave only the parts of the old model that have been changed or deleted in the new model.

  1. Open the branch External models in the object tree.
  2. Select the IFC model.
  3. Right-click to open the context-sensitive menu.
  4. Select Update Model.
  5. Move to the folder in which you have saved the new IFC file, select the file and click Open.

The Update IFC Model dialog box opens. Updating the model proceeds in two steps in the dialog box.

  6. Step 1: If necessary, edit the names of the old and new model in the object tree to distinguish which model is which.
    • Existing model - Edit the name of the old model in the object tree, if necessary.
    • Updated model - Edit the name of the new model in the object tree, if necessary. If you want to re-import the parts you deleted from the old model, select Import parts deleted from Vertex model. Select the object types to be imported from the new model. If you have imported only some of the floors from the old model, only the floors in question will be imported from the new model as well.
Click OK to proceed to the next step.
  7. Step 2: Select which parts you want to keep from the old model. View changed, deleted, or added parts.

  8. Confirm by clicking OK.

After this, both IFC models will appear in the object tree.

Note: If the new version of the project has a different identifier (GUID) than the old version, you will be prompted: "Project GUIDs don't match. Changes may not be recognized correctly." You can choose whether to import the model as a new IFC model or to update an existing IFC model even if the identifiers are different.
