The Update IFC Model Dialog Box

If necessary, edit the names of the old and new IFC model in the object tree to distinguish which model is which. Select the object types to be imported from the new model.

Updating the model proceeds in two steps in the dialog box.

Phase 1

Existing model
The title shows the date of creation of the IFC model.
If necessary, edit the name of the old model that is shown in the object tree in the Name in treeview field.
Updated model
The title shows the date of creation of the IFC model.
If necessary, edit the name of the new model that is shown in the object tree in the Name in treeview field.
Import parts deleted from Vertex model
If you want to re-import the parts you deleted from the old IFC model, select Import parts deleted from Vertex model.
Object Types
Select the object types to be imported from the new model. If you have imported only some of the floors from the old model, only the floors in question will be imported from the new model as well.
Click the 2D column for the object type when you want the objects to have a 2D presentation in the floor plan drawing.
Note: 2D presentation may slow down importing the model. You can also select the 2D presentation for the IFC objects afterwards as follows:
  1. Select an object.
  2. Right-click to open the context-sensitive menu.
  3. Select Presentation > 2D and 3D.

Click OK to proceed to the next step.

Phase 2

Existing model
The title shows the date of creation of the IFC model.
If necessary, edit the name of the old model that is shown in the object tree in the Name in treeview field.
Select what you want to keep from the old model:
  • Unchanged - Keep the parts of the old model that have not been changed in the new model.
  • Changed - Keep the parts of the old model that have been changed in the new model.
  • Deleted - Keep the parts of the old model that have been deleted in the new model.
Clear the selections, if you want to delete all unchanged/changed/deleted parts from the old model. Parts that have been converted to Vertex BD objects are not deleted.
Updated model
The title shows the date of creation of the IFC model.
If necessary, edit the name of the new model that is shown in the object tree in the Name in treeview field.
If you have added IFC property sets for the objects in the old model, you can copy the selections to the corresponding objects in the new model by selecting Copy added property sets to updated parts.
If you have converted IFC walls to Vertex BD walls in the old model, and the automatic connections to surrounding walls has been enabled, you can copy the connections between walls in the new model and Vertex BD walls by selecting Copy conversion connections to updated parts.
Changed / Deleted / Added / Possible pairs
The table shows parts that are different from the old model in their own tabs. All the other parts are hidden in the model window. You can show and hide parts in the object tree while the dialog box is open.
  • Changed - Click a row in the table. The program shows the old version of the part in the model window. Other parts will be hidden. Double-click a row. The program shows both the old and the new version of the part.
  • Deleted - Click a row in the table. The program shows the deleted part in the model window.
  • Added - Click a row in the table. The program shows the added part in the model window.
  • Possible pairs - The new IFC model may have parts that are otherwise similar to the old model, but for some reason their unique identifier (GUID) has changed. In this case, the program interprets that the part has been removed from the old model and added to the new model. The part is shown on both Deleted and Added tabs with the note Has possible pair. You can confirm that this is the same part, regardless of the changed ID, by selecting the part on the Possible pairs tab and clicking Confirm Selected. After this, the selected part is shown on the Changed tab.
