Template Buildings

When you create a new building, it can be based on a template building or an old building. When you create a new building based on a template building, all folders, databases and files are copied from the selected template building into the new building.

The template buildings are customer-specific. They can be designed for different purposes, for example, according to the number of floors: template buildings for a 1-, 1½- or 2-story building. The template building includes drawing-model pairs for each floor. The PARAMETERS file of the template building defines initial values for parameters required in the design work, including floor base heights, wall heights, floor thicknesses, etc.

Following template buildings are included in the basic software delivery:
  • TEMPL-PERUS. The building has drawing-model pairs and height levels for five floors. Each floor has two height levels: FLOOR and CEILING. The building parameters have been connected to the height levels with formulas. Changing the height level updates the building parameters. Automatic rooms are on by default, but automatic floors are off. Elevation views with shading are predefined to the building.
  • TEMPL-PERUS-10. Same as the TEMPL-PERUS, but the building has drawing-model pairs and height levels for ten floors.

  • TEMPL-LUONNOS. Same as TEMPL-PERUS, but the automatic floors are on.

Master Template

When you are using several template buildings, you can collect their shared files such as drawing sheets into a single master template building, making it easy to maintain the files. When you create a new building, the files of the master template building will be copied into the new building before the files of the actual template building.

Things to note when creating a master template building:

  • The id of the master template building must be TEMPLATE-MASTER or TEMPL-MASTER.
  • The files d_PROREG_ONE and d_PROREG_ONEc must be included in the master template building folder. If necessary, you can copy them from the folder of an existing template building or some other building.
  • Before you can use the master template building, its data must be updated to the archive. You can update the archive as follows:
    1. Select > Open Building. The Open Buildings dialog box opens.
    2. Click the Update list button.
    3. Click Cancel to exit the dialog box.

Contents of a Template Building

A template building contains various files in which, for example, the following things are defined:

  • Drawing-model pairs
    • The drawing-model pairs in use, and their properties such as descriptions, serial numbers, drawing and model files, parameter groups.
    • Reference drawings loaded by default into the drawing file of the drawing-model pair.
  • Building parameters
    • The PARAMETERS file defines the drawing-model pair parameter groups and the initial values for parameters required in the design work, including floor base heights, wall heights, floor thicknesses, etc.
  • Drawing Sheets
    • Drawing sheets and the views and title blocks to be added on them.
  • Height Levels
    • Height levels, to which the building components will be attached.

If you wish to edit the drawing-model pairs, parameters or drawing sheets of a template building, you can open the template building like other buildings by selecting the > Open Building function. The template projects are saved in the TEMPLATE folder.

Creating a New Template Building

Things to note when creating a new template building:

  • Select TEMPLATE as the saving location for the building.
  • Select the Template property in the building data card.
Note:
  • The folders of the template projects are located in the ../shared/template/projects folder.
