Cable Harness Design

This application for design and  management of cable harnesses supports wiring diagrams, harness drawings and related wiring information.

Design Process

• The design process is started by drawing a circuit diagram using specific rules in labelling and wiring (Collecting Wiring Database).
• When the circuit diagram is finished, the wiring database can be collected from the diagram, and the database can be used for wiring lists etc.

Cable Harness Drawing

With the help of cable harness drawing, the structure of the cable harness and wires including can be specified.

• The system will then use device symbols in the harness drawing to decide which wires will be included in the harness.
• Cable harness drawings will also be drawn according to the certain rules (Cable Harness Information / Wiring Tables).
• Based on the connections and given length information, system will be able to add harness information into wiring database: individual lengths of cables and location of devices in the cable harness drawing with the function.
• If pin material information is included in device symbols, this is also transferred to wiring database.
• Wiring for each harness is saved to separate database table named after harness drawing number and revision tag.

Since version ED18 collecting wires from diagrams into a separate database is not needed. Collection is done automatically when harness drawings are updated.

For compatibility reasons or if wiring diagrams are in a different project, wiring database can still be collected  and then used as a base for updating harness drawings. This method requires that each change in wiring diagrams is followed by updating the wiring database and then updating related harness drawings.
