Edit the Properties of a Rendering Material

Rendering

General

  • The type of properties you can modify depends on the material. Some of the materials are based on mathematical models and some may be image files, for example.
  • The properties are grouped on different tabs in the dialog box.
  • You can also save the edited material in the Material Library.
  • Only the Color shading property always requires a value. Other properties may also be set to None, meaning the shading property is not used.

  • You cannot edit the materials of the parts in an assembly using the function chain described below.

Edit the Properties of a Rendering Material

  1. Select a surface or surfaces of a part model, if necessary.
    • If you do not select a surface in the part model, the editing applies to all surfaces in the part model that have not been given a separate rendering material.
    • Hold down the Ctrl key if you select more than one surface.
  2. Select the context-sensitive function Rendering> Edit Material.
    • The program opens the dialog box Edit Material.
    • The content of the dialog box may be different depending on the rendering material.
  3. Select the necessary tab in the dialog box.
    • For example, Color.
  4. Click the property to be edited.
    • For example, The color property on the Color tab.
  5. Edit the properties of the rendering material.
  6. Update the change in the preview image by clicking the Refresh button.
  7. Save the changes by clicking OK.

Dialog Box Options

Tab: General
You can select following properties.
  • Material name - Enter the name of the material when you create an entirely new material. You can name a copied material when you paste the material to the library. In this case, the field is not editable.
  • Color - A different color can be used in the shaded and rendered model. The color used in rendering is defined on the Color tab. Enter the RGB value of the color in the text field in the (R,G,B) format, or click the button next to the field and select the color in a dialog box.
  • Properties - Select the shading properties of the material from the drop-down lists. Material Shader Properties
  • Refresh - The changes made to the shading properties of the material are updated in the preview image.
  • Update selection picture - Select the check box if you want to refresh the material's thumb nail displayed in the browser. The check box can be selected after you have refreshed the preview image with the Refresh button.
General
You can select a category, color, or other properties for the rendering material.
  • You can select properties from the list presented by the preset button.
Tab: Color
Edit the shading properties of the color.
Tab: Reflectance
Edit the shading properties of reflectance.
Tab: Displacement
Edit the shading properties of surface displacement.
Tab: Transparency
Edit the shading properties of transparency.
Tab: Texture
Edit the shading properties of the texture.
Tab: Hatch
If a hatch is set on the surface, you can modify the properties of the hatch.
  • Hatch setting for surfaces is an old feature of the program. They were used to control the direction and scale of the texture.
  • Nowadays, there are no ways to set hatches on surfaces.
