Create Dormer Dialog Box

Select the dormer properties in the dialog box.

Dialog Box Options

Add a Wall
Select the check box when you want to add walls to a dormer. Select the wall type of the front wall by clicking the Select button. Select the wall library, wall type and wall.
Selecting a Wall Structure
The sidewall wall type is the same as the front wall by default, but if necessary, you can select another type by clicking Select.
Front wall (top), Side wall (top)
Select either of the following as the locating height of the top end of the front wall and side walls:
  • Clip top to dormer roof - The top end of the wall will be stretched to the dormer roof.
  • Clip to height - Enter the height of the top end of the wall in relation to the start height of the bottom end. The bottom end of the wall can start from the top surface of the main roof or from the floor height which you can enter in the Floor height field.
Front wall (bottom), Side wall (bottom)
Select either of the following as the locating height of the bottom end of the front wall and side walls:
  • Start from main roof - The bottom end of the wall starts from the top surface of the main roof. The bottom end becomes slanted based on the pitch of the roof.
  • Start from floor height - The wall starts from the top floor surface. You can enter the height of the top floor surface in the Floor height field.
Front overhang, Side overhang
Type the overhang values of the dormer in the text field.
Note: The overhang is the distance of the eave from the exterior side of the wall frame.
Select drawing-model pair for front wall
By default, all components are added in the active drawing-model pair. If necessary, you can select a different drawing-model pair for the front wall by clicking Select. Select the drawing-model pair from a button menu.
Add a Window
Select this check box when you want to add a window to the front wall of the dormer. In addition, select the following:
  • Number of windows - Select 1, 2 or 3 windows.
  • Space between windows - When you add 2 or 3 windows, enter the space between the windows to the text field.
  • Window model (main) - Select the window from the window library by clicking Select. When you add 2 windows, both windows are main windows. When you add 3 windows, the middle window is the main window.
  • Window model (outer) - When you add 3 windows, select the outermost windows from the window library by clicking Select. The middle window is the main window.
The windows are positioned in the middle of the front wall.
Select a Window or Door in the Browser
Header height from floor
Type the height of the top edge of the window in relation to the floor surface. Type the height of the floor surface in the Floor height field.
Floor height
Enter the height of the top surface of the floor.
  • When you select Start from main roof for the bottom end of the wall, enter the value 0 as the floor height.
  • When you select Start from floor height for the bottom end of the wall, enter the height of the floor’s top surface.
Create hole in main roof
When this check box is selected, the program will create a hole in the main roof. The border lines of the hole are determined by the inner surfaces of the walls.
Note: If you remove the dormer or the walls of a dormer, the hole will remain in the main roof. You can remove the hole by removing the edge points of the hole with the function Delete an Edge Point.
