Edit Symbols in Symbol Library

Create a new symbol or edit an old symbol in the symbol library.

Symbol editor is a special 2D window, in which you can specify the geometry of the Vertex symbol. IO points and saving of the symbol.

Please note

  • You can create and save symbols of symbol type in the symbol editor, also complicated ensembles including pieces of a diagram or layout, that is not used as a symbol in the application, besides they are added to drawing as a group.
  • In both cases, symbols are saved in the same way to the symbol index. After saving to the symbol menu is defined, how to use symbol.

Open the Symbol Editor

  1. On the tab, in the Symbols group, select Symbol Editor.
  2. Create a new symbol or edit an old symbol in the symbol library.

Close the Symbol Editor

  1. On the tab, in the Editor group, click Close Symbol Editor.
  2. Confirm by selecting Yes.

Please note

  • The Symbol Editor function is specific to a symbol system. If you want to change symbol system, close the symbol editor first.

A Single Symbol

  1. Draw the geometry of the symbol.
    • You can create geometry by using all Vertex graphic functions.

      Draw a Drawing

    • Use a grid if it's needed.

      Grid Properties

    • You can also use symbols if you add a symbol as a group to a drawing. You can use an identical symbol as a base.

Read a Symbol from the Symbol List to Editor
Read Symbol from a Drawing to Symbol Editor

    • When using symbol geometry’s layers, you have to note that whether to leave geometry of the symbol on its own layers in the drawing, or to add the hole symbol to a single layer.

For example, symbols used in the layout, visible part can be drawn on its own layer and punching geometry on its own layer.

In the geometry of the Symbol Editor there is a special-purpose for a covering layer. There you can add edge lines and a symbol that covers symbols beneath it. The order of the symbols is defined by the Z coordinate, to which the default value can be entered when saving. A symbol having bigger Z coordinate covers symbols having smaller Z coordinate.

      Create a Cover Symbol

  2. Enter / check IO points of a symbol using functions:

    Add IO-Point
    Edit IO-Point
    Delete IO-Point

  3. Save symbol in the symbol index and symbol menu.

    Saving a Symbol

  4. Try out the function of a symbol in the diagram / layout depending the usage of a symbol. If the symbol is OK, continue creating a next one (do, if necessary Initialize Symbol Editor Window), or stop symbol editor.

Please note

  • In the symbol editor, you can add also rasters to a symbol, as a geometry of a symbol. They will turn and scale with symbol. The layer of a symbol don't affect on the layer of rasters. Rasters will be visible in the taken layer.
