Add a Log Wall

Add a log wall just like other walls:

  1. Activate a drawing window.
  2. Do either of the following:
    • Select Modeling | Wall Layout | Wall.
    • Right-click to open the context-sensitive menu, and select Insert Wall.
  3. Select the wall in a dialog box.
  4. Select the Log Wall Library and the selection group Log Wall. Select one of the following thumbnails:
    • Select Parametric log wall, and select the log wall parameters.

      Log Wall Parameters

    • Select one of the fixed log walls, for which parameters have already been defined.

The selected wall structure and default locating point are displayed on the status bar.

  5. Define the presentation method of the wall. By default, the presentation method of a log wall in the 3D model is coarse. Individual logs are modeled in the accurate presentation method, but this also increases the size of the model and slows down its handling.

  6. Before selecting the points of a wall, you can use auxiliary wall adding functions in the same way as when adding a regular wall. For example, you can select a closed wall chain, change the reference point of a wall or open the wall parameters for re-editing.

    Auxiliary Wall Adding Functions

  7. Select the points of a log wall in the same way as the points of a regular wall.

    • Select the corner points of a wall group one by one. The wall reference line will pass through the selected points.
    • You can also select the Rectangular walls function from the auxiliary menu, which allows you to select the start and end points of the diagonal of the rectangular wall group.
    • When you are adding exterior walls, select their corner points by moving clockwise around the building. In this way, you can make sure that the outer face of the wall will face outward and the inner face inward, ensuring that windows added later are placed in the wall with the correct facing. When adding, an arrow will indicate the outer face of the wall.
  8. Select Confirm.

Note:
  • When adding extra insulation to an exterior log wall, use the Modeling | Wall Layout | Wall > Wall Next to Log Wall function. A joint will then be automatically created between the log wall and the extra insulation.
  • Before selecting the points of the log wall, you can edit the height of the wall, the type of the bottom log and the number of logs by selecting the Log wall height auxiliary function. You can add an extension to an existing log wall by selecting the Add log wall extension function.
  • You can use the Log panel wall auxiliary function when adding an extra insulation layer and panel siding to an exterior log wall, or when adding a wood-framed interior wall with panel siding to a log wall. The function can be used to define the panel height so that the siding looks like the existing log wall.
  • You can select any auxiliary function while selecting the points of a wall chain. For example, you can change the presentation method of the wall in the model, change the reference point, select a closed or open wall chain, change the wall height data, etc.
