Hole in a Log Wall

You can cut an opening into a log wall. It is easiest to select the points of the area to be cut in the elevation.

1. Open the elevation of the log wall.
2. Do either of the following:
   • Select Log Wall Layout | Clip | Hole in Wall.
   • Right-click to open the context-sensitive menu and select Clip Hole in Log Wall.
3. Select the points of the opening using the cursor, type the coordinates of the points, or use the snap functions in the context-sensitive menu. Lock the cursor, if necessary.

   

4. Select Confirm. The program will add a line from the point you last selected to the start point (in the example, from point 10 to point 1) and the polyline is closed. An opening is created in the wall.

• The technique used to cut the logs limits the shape of the cut area. Cuts that are not orthogonal are implemented using notches that can be either bevels or rectangular notches. The figure below shows examples of some possible notches at log ends and in the middle of a log.

  

• The following notches are not possible:

  

• Open the log wall elevation with the Edit Log Wall Shape function.
• You can add a rectangular notch easily by selecting two points: the start and end points of the opening diagonal.

  

• You can remove an opening created by cutting by connecting the logs at the opening with the Merge Logs function. The function completely merges cut logs. You can remove any remaining notches with the Delete Notches function.
