Properties of the Document to be Published

DesignStream Interface + Publisher

You can select different properties for a document to be published, depending on what you publish, to which file format you publish and what is the publishing destination.

  • When you publish Vertex files, the original file format is vxp or vxm.
  • You can publish Vertex files to file formats vxp, vxm, jpeg, png, tiff, swf, pdf, dwg or dxf.
  • You can publish documents to a folder, to the DesignStream system or to a printer.

General Properties

Properties common for all file types are:

  • Classification - Double-click a field in the Value column and select a classification in the dialog box. The classification determines the document's class.
  • Description - The default description is the file type you chose when adding the file to the document set. You can enter a new description in the text field.
  • File Name - The published destination file has as a default the same name as the selected source file. You can also publish the document under a different file name. Enter the destination file name in the text field. See also FILEINFO Data in the Document Properties.
  • Publicity - The property is used to manage the visibility of the document in the DesignStream system. Select publicity from the list.

Publishing a Model

When you publish a model (vxm), you can select following properties for a document:

  • Name of view point - When you publish a model, the default projection is ISO Back Right. You can publish a different projection or a view saved into a view point by defining the Name of View Point property. Select the view point or projection from the list.

Save a View as a View Point

  • Hidden line - When you want to remove the hidden lines, type 1 in the text field in the Value column.

    Remove Hidden Lines

  • 3D PDF - When the 3D PDF Converter add-on option is available to you, and you select PDF as the file type of the document to be published, the file to be created is automatically a 3D PDF file. You do not need to select the property for the document separately. If you select the property Name of view point for the document, the view will be set as the opening view of the 3D PDF file, but the view will not be saved in the view list of the 3D PDF file. Views saved by using the Other View function will be saved in the view list.

Publishing a Drawing

When you publish a drawing (vxp), you can select following properties for a document:

  • Layer set - You can select the geometry that will be visible in the drawing layer-group-specifically. When you select a layer group, all of its layers are activated. All layers not belonging to the layer group are inactive. Select a layer group from the list. When you are publishing a drawing to a PDF file or a PDF book, you can select Active layers (ACTIVE) from the list. In this case, the only visible layers in the file to be published will be the layers that were active in the drawing when it was saved.
  • Update dynamic texts - When you want to update the text macros of a drawing when publishing it, type 1 in the text field in the Value column.

    Update Text Symbols

  • Hidden line - When you want to remove the hidden lines, type 1 in the text field in the Value column.

    Remove Hidden Lines

Publishing to an Image File

The type of an image file is either jpeg, png or tiff.

  • Width, Height - Define the resolution of an image file in pixels. Enter the width and the height in the text fields in the Value column.
  • Quality of Visualization - When you publish an image file from a model, you can choose one of the following as the model's presentation method:
    • Flat - The model will be shaded as even faces with the colors of the elements. The effect of lights is not calculated.
    • Preview - A rough shader method that will take into account the materials, lights and background. The transparency will not be calculated.
    • Full - A more accurate shader method than Preview, the transparency calculation is also included. Often the most useful shader method, suitable for various materials.
    • Preview + Antialiasing - Like Preview, but steep color gradients are smoothed.
    • Full + Antialiasing - Like Preview + Antialiasing, but bitmap color gradients are also smoothed. The slowest shader method.
    • Shading - The model elements are shaded in solid colors.

If this property is not defined, shading will be used as the presentation method.

Note: You can publish a rendered model only if the Rendering add-on option is available to you.
  • New drawing limits - You can use this property to control whether the drawing/model limits are redefined or the last saved drawing limits are used. Select either of the following from the list in the Value field:
    • Yes - Limits will be redefined. Default value for image files published from drawings (vxp).
    • No - New limits are not redefined. Default value for image files published from models (vxm).
  • Preview image - You can define this property when publishing an image file of a model to the DesignStream system. When this property has a Yes value, the image file will be published in the DesignStream system as the preview image of the house model.

Publishing to a PDF File

When you publish a drawing to a PDF file, you can select the following properties for a document:

  • Prefix - You can define this property for a PDF file when you publish a drawing set (for example elev*.vxp). See also FILEINFO Data in the Document Properties.
  • Line width setup file - You can define pen colors for a PDF file or when publishing a document on a printer. The pen colors are defined in a line width setup file which is read from the ../custom/fonts folder. The line width setup file has a .lset extension. Select the name of the line width setup file to be used from the list in the Value column, for example Color.lset.
  • Colors by screen and true linewidths - If you do not wish to use a line width setup file, set the Colors by screen and true linewidths property to 1. The lines will be printed with the colors displayed on the screen and with true line widths taking into account the printing scale. When the property is set to 0, a line width setup file will be used.
  • Custom line width - If you want to print the lines with the colors displayed on the screen, but set the desired line width for all lines, select the property Custom line width in addition to the property Colors by screen and true linewidths. Enter the line width as the property value. The minimum width is 0.01.
  • New drawing limits - You can define this property for PDF files or drawing sets included in a PDF book (for example elev*.vxp). A PDF file may be part of a PDF book, or a single file. You can use this property to control whether the drawing/model limits are redefined or the last saved drawing limits are used. Select either of the following from the list in the Value field:
    • Yes - Limits will be redefined.
    • No - New limits are not redefined. Default value for PDF files.
  • Show hidden layers - You can use this property, when you are publishing a drawing and you have defined the visible layers in the drawing by using the Layer set property. The layer group may include hidden layers, which are not shown on the screen or in the print by default. When you set the Show hidden layers value to 1, also the hidden layers of the selected layer group are visible in the PDF publication.
  • Circles as lines - Sets whether circles are to be printed as lines or circles.
  • PDF type - Select either normal PDF, or PDFA suitable for long-term preservation (ISO standard PDF/A-1b). If the property has not been selected, normal PDF is the default.
  • Print areas - You can define print areas in a drawing that the publisher can print as separate pages in the PDF. Enter the name of the print area macro as the property value. With the value 0, print areas are ignored. If the document belongs to a PDF book that has this feature, the document overwrites the book value.

    Print Areas in PDF Outputs

  • Print area book - You can use this feature to publish panel drawings when multiple views of panels are displayed in the panel drawings, and each view is defined as its own print area. The publication creates a separate PDF file for each panel, with the views as their own pages.

    Print Areas in PDF Outputs

Publishing to a PDF Book

In addition, you can select following properties for a PDF book:

  • Title - Type a title for the PDF book. The title will be displayed in the PDF file's table of contents.
